Okay, I'll be honest. The reviews for BTD1-BTD3 are all going to be extremely similar, and most likely, the tiny differences in score will be due to how I am feeling when I write the review. Anyway, let's get started on the first BTD game!
NOTE: This will be the last game using the old rubric. Plus, this is graded far harsher than the earlier reviews, since I felt that those final scores were a bit high.
Tutorial / Understanding of the Game: Total 5 points
The concept of this game is really simple at first glance: spend money, pick up a tower, place it down, and watch it pop bloons. Pretty simple overall, though I do see how one could be confused at first glance.
Tutorial Score: 3 of 5
Functionality (How the Controls are): Total 10 Points
Pretty simple controls. Something I could complain about is no hotkeys (wait, were there hotkeys?), but really, with the little amount of micromanagement needed in this game, it doesn't really matter.
Functionality Score: 6.5 of 10
Visual Graphics: Total 10 Points
Okay, not the best to ever exist. In my opinion, even the original bloons graphics seemed better.
Visual Graphics Score: 5 of 10
Sound and Music: Total 10 Points
Pretty much the same as Bloons. No music, all awesome popping sounds. I will be a bit harsher this time, though, since this game would be suitable for music, unlike Bloons.
Sound and Music Score: 4 of 10
Difficulty: Total 15 Points
Oh dang, difficulty. Well, beating it for the first time was not really easy for me, but after a few tries, it became pretty easy, though I cannot say it was ever complete walk in the park for me (except hyper tack shooter glitch).
Difficulty Score: 10.5 of 15
Replayability (how fun a game is that I feel the urge to replay it): Total 15 Points
This game has one map and one mode. That's pretty much it. I never really played this game much (though I did still play once in a while even after beating it), because after beating it once, there wasn't really much to do again. Not even freeplay mode or anything.
Replayability Score: 6 of 15
Creativity: Total 15 Points
The fact that the developers changed their awesome bloons games to a tower defense was a bold and creative move by them. Very creative? Not necessarily, since the monkeys, bloons, and tower defense all existed before the game was made. The creation was just when all three factors were combined into one.
Creativity Score: 6.5 of 15
Developer Effort: Total 20 Points
Honestly really hard to tell how hard someone worked if you aren't them. But overall, this game was a great start to the eventual phenomenal series, and Ninja Kiwi probably worked hard because they wanted to see how well the new game would go. Again, I have no clue about the actual effort, but what is shown in the game is hard work paying off.
Developer Effort Score: 14 of 20
And the math is complete! Drumroll, please...
65.5 of 100! D
Okay, not the best, but I was far more harsh for this game than the previous games I reviewed. If I reviewed with the same intensity as previous reviews, this would get around a C+ or B-. This rubric just wasn't quite right, since I can't tell how hard developers tried in making the game, and some of these variables aren't truly important to a game. The new rubric is going to be used starting this Friday, in a review of Bloons TD 2!

ReplyDeleteA review is supposed to show your takes on the game please thank you.
When you take on responsibility of telling others on how well the game is structured, I'm almost certain you have to provide a rubric on your grading please thank you
As for your grading, what's a D compared to a C? Please thank you
I'll be starting a review series of my own please thank you it will use a lot easier (basically jokingly easy) gradin system please thank you
My finals for my school will be EZ, as for the development effort, pretty much all these game they don't update had barely any effort. BSM2 had a lot of effect even though they don't update please thank you
1) Yes, I am giving my opinions on what I feel about this game. No need to agree on what I say.
Delete2) Rubric is here: http://harngue02reviews.blogspot.com/p/grading-rubric.html
3) The letter grades are using the American academic grading scale. You can search up what each letter is compared to another if you want.
Who mentioned finals? And as I said, none of this reviewing should be taken seriously at all; it's nowhere near professional work. I'm just doing to this stuff when I bored. I said it's okay to disagree with me, and we can all respect each other's opinions, but all it looks like is you're insulting what I think.
From now on Ima use please thank you instead of lel because I can using the shortcuts in iPad, that's why I capitalized all the lol meanings LAUGH OUT LOUD
