"Tower Keepers is a hero game where players build up a collection of heroes to battle against enemies and defend their tower against player attacks. Players will get many customisation and strategic choices over the course of the game and it looks pretty badass if I do say so myself (and I'm not an artist for the game so I can say so)." - Aaron, Ninja Kiwi, 2015
Okay, here's my rating of the game of Tower Keepers. (probably not 100% final, since I my opinions might change a bit over time, and I've really only just started playing the game).
Tutorial / Understanding of the Game: Total 5 points
Okay, so we're starting off in a weird category. The tutorial is important because it tells you right off the bat how the game is played. I thought this tutorial was meh at best, since although I got the general concept of the game, I was confused on what to do. I had no idea whether clicking did anything or not. Nevertheless, I still did understand that we had to battle enemies in a sort of 1v1 combat, which did help me out some.
Tutorial Score: 3 of 5
Functionality (How the Controls are): Total 10 Points
This game has rather strange functions, I guess. I did not really understand what to do instead of clicking on random enemies and activating abilities once in a while. I honestly did not get it 100%.
Functionality Score: 6 of 10
Visual Graphics: Total 10 Points
The graphics aren't anything like Fallout 4 or anything, but for a game as simple as this one, I'd say that they're pretty darn good and simple.
Visual Graphics Score: 8 of 10
Sound and Music: Total 10 Points
Okay, so the music and sound effects in this game are pretty simple, explosions and stuff for sound effects, and classical kingdom music for the menu. Pretty darn catchy, though.
Sound and Music Score: 9 of 10
Difficulty: Total 15 Points
Since I haven't played this game that much yet, I'm not one to judge fully on the difficulty. But from I've played so far, which is just the first few levels, the battles are getting harder and harder at just the right pace.
Difficulty Score: 13 of 15
Replayability (how fun a game is that I feel the urge to replay it): Total 15 Points
This game is pretty darn fun. Very replayable? Eh. I feel as if it's pretty repetitive (Hey, I just started. Don't blame me if it changes a bunch throughout the game). But the amount of fun I seem to have in each battle actually drew me back to play again today, which I never did for Fortress Destroyer.
Replayability Score: 12 of 15
Creativity: Total 15 Points
Did Ninja Kiwi come up with a completely new, original idea? Not really. There are some like this, such as Angry Birds Epic, and it sort of reminds me of Castle Crashers. Though the idea is not 100% original, it's not an often-used idea, and I like that.
Creativity Score: 12 of 15
Developer Effort: Total 20 Points
The final category of them all, and what I feel is most important. Did Ninja Kiwi put a ton of effort into this game? From what I can tell, it seems like a pretty good overall game, and it appears that NK put some effort into it. They they do their 100% absolute best? No, I don't think so, but for the limited money they have, this game is pretty good.
Effort Score: 18 of 20
Now lets add up all the scores. The final score is...
81 out of 100! B-
So since this is my first review, there's not much to compare it to, but overall, I think a B- is good. It's definitely passing! :)
